Nordic Seismology Seminar in Iceland

The 47th Nordic Seismology Seminar will be held in Reykjavík 11 - 13 October 2016. The meeting will begin on Tuesday afternoon and last until Thursday evening. Those who are interested in attending, are encouraged to apply for participation.

The deadline for registration is 31 August. The abstract submission deadline is 15 September. The venue is Grand Hotel Reykjavík. Rooms have been reserved and can be booked through the registration process, although participants are of course free to book other accommodation.

Wide range of topics

Traditionally, these seminars cover a wide range of topics related to seismological research in the Nordic countries:

  • Detection seismology
  • CTBT related studies
  • Methodology in data analysis
  • Hazard assessment and engineering seismology
  • Structural studies of the crust and upper mantle
  • Earthquakes, seismicity, volcanoes and tectonics
  • Earthquake catalogues and operational aspects of monitoring

Field trip

A field trip will be made to the Reykjanes peninsula to see the faults of the Reykjanes oblique rift and some pillow lavas near the ocean. Also lake Kleifarvatn, Seltún geothermal field and Gunnuhver, a hot-spring famous for its steam.
