The group should imagine itself as a policy agency responsible for designing a long term (20 years) planning
process that should enable the society to cope with the climate change effects and its uncertainties and
develop a climate change adaptation strategy.
We will form two groups with slightly different topics as described in the terms of references below. Each
group should have 3-4

brief written report at the end of the course. A break-out group is composed of 2-3 students.
Imagine that the group is part of a policy agency responsible for designing a long term (20 years) planning process that should enable the society to cope with
the climate change effects and its uncertainties allowing sufficiently robust and flexible management practices. We would then ask

Analysis
In Fig.1a shown are simulated changes in the annual extreme temperature range calculated
as difference between 20 yr mean absolute annual maxima and minima temperatures in baseline
and future scenario periods. The range

weather related delays and interruptions. Leviäkangas (2007) mentions an amount of 20 ~ 30
million euro per year. As mentioned before over time road users will start to adapt if they realize
that certain delays occur too frequently. Responses could vary from shifts in departure time to
switching to another mode or even relocation of activities.
