for Denmark [Scharling, 1999] providing daily
values for temperature, precipitation, and reference evapo-
transpiration ETref (potential evapotranspiration for a well
watered grass of uniform height) at a 40-km resolution. For
each grid cell representative time series are estimated on the
basis of data from available climate stations. For this study
we have retrieved data for the period 1990–2004

of the glacier is projected to be reduced by 30 %
with respect to the present at the end of this century. If the
climate warms, as suggested by most of the climate change
scenarios, the model projects this glacier to almost disappear
by the end of the 21st century. Runoff from the glacier is
predicted to increase for the next 30–40 yr and decrease after
that as a consequence of the diminishing ice-covered area

increased net precipitation and increased rainfall intensity put pressure on the sewage
system and the lake dam. Flooding of the town is expected to occur more frequently. Future flooding
storms could be as high as 2,5 meters.
The challenges have been divided into two main themes: sea level change and rainfall.

fiord area. Adaptive challenges due to changes in regional groundwater level
An increase in sea level will cause more frequent flooding in the town due to its low lying position by
the fjord. In 2006, the local town hall was flooded when sea level rose to 1.76 m above normal.
Simultaneously, increased net precipitation and increased rainfall intensity put pressure on the sewage
system
