Excursion

Lidar 2013

An optional snow scooter excursion onto the Langjökull ice cap (second largest ice cap in Iceland, 900 km²) is planned for the afternoon of June 21. The excursion will be arranged by Mountaineers of Iceland with guides from the Institute of Earth Sciences of the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

Participants should bring ordinary hiking clothes (a parka, gloves, thick socks, hiking shoes). They will be provided a warm wind proof overall, a helmet, a headliner to wear under the helmet and snow scooter gloves.

The excursion starts at 14:00 on Friday afternoon (departure by bus from the hotel at Reykholt). The snow scooter trip is from ~15:00 to ~17:00. The bus will drive the participants back to the hotel and departs to Reykjavík at ~18:00.
