Organisational chart of the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO)

The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) is a public institution, under the auspices of the Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources. The institution has about 140 employees with various educational background and skills covering various disciplines. Additionally, 80 people assist with observation and surveillance work around the country. Below is a description of IMO's organisational chart:

  • Director General, Árni Snorrason
  • Human Resource Manager, Borgar Ævar Axelsson
  • Quality and Information Security Manager, Sigurjón Árnason
  • Legal Consultant, Hrafnhildur Valdimarsdóttir

IMO comprises four divisions and their Managing Directors are:

  • Division of Observations, Óðinn Þórarinsson
  • Division of Processing and Research, Jórunn Harðardóttir
  • Division of Warnings and Forecasting, Ingvar Kristinsson
  • Division of Finance and Administration, Deputy Director General, Hafdís Karlsdóttir
  • Division of Information Technology, Gunnar Bachmann Hreinsson

Additionally, certain fields of work are co-ordinated accross divisions:

  • Director for Natural Hazards, Sigrún Karlsdóttir
  • Director for Business Development, Theodór Freyr Hervarsson
