at 07:58 this morning in the nortern part of Bárðarbunga, M4.9, and it was accompanied by ca. 25 cm lowering of the caldera according to the newly installed GPS meter there. In the afternoon, two earthquakes close to M3.5 occurred, both in Bárðarbunga. Other earthquakes have been smaller. According to scientists in the field the activity has diminished and the only crater which is active, is the one /earthquakes-and-volcanism/articles/nr/3001/

it with the aerial photographs to extract locations of Ground Control Points (GCP) for the orientation of aerial photographs. The elevation of the GCPs is extracted directly from the lidar DEM. For orientation of the 1994 photographs we reach a RMS error in planimetry below the meter-level for 40 GCPs obtained from the lidar. The vertical component shows even better results, with a RMS error below /media/vatnafar/joklar/Reykholt-abstracts.pdf
  • 35. Update on activity in Eyjafjallajökull 2010

On the northern side a tephra wall rises 20 meters above the water. The ice walls at the southwestern corner of the crater are melting, i.e. at the site of the vent that was active 4 - 6 June. The rate of melting is assumed to be about one cubic meter per second.
