Terms and conditions
The following terms and conditions apply to usage of data from the Icelandic Meteorological Office's (IMO) web-sites and data servers:
Unless stated otherwise, you are free to use photographs and data on the IMO websites and data servers; however, if the data are used for presentation, publication, or other development, reference must be made to the Icelandic Meteorological Office and the date of data downloading. The same stipulation applies to the graphical representation of IMO data and photographs. Unless stated otherwise, there are no restrictions on the use of IMO data, neither for private nor commercial use.
Data means any type of forecast, measurement, observation, calculated result or derived data (i.e. from model calculations). Many pages on the IMO web-site contain real-time data that has not been assessed or quality controlled; note that these data are preliminary and that they might change without notice. The Icelandic Meteorological Office does not guarantee that data on its web-site will always be accessible and up-to-date and reserves the right to close access to data without notice. Customers are informed that the quality of the data may vary in terms of accuracy and reliability depending on its origin. The Icelandic Meteorological Office does not take responsibility whether the data is suitable for the purposes intended by the customer.Internal and published IMO reports often contain specific information on how the available data should be referenced. If not stated otherwise, written subject matter falls under the clause of the copyright law (nr. 73/1972, with later changes). No authorisation is given to change the content of IMO reports that are accessible via the web-site. Furthermore, no authorisation is given to change data or any other information available from this web-site, unless the source and modification is stated clearly. (i.e., a description of data sourced from IMO and the subsequent changes made by others.)
The Icelandic Met Office's websites does not collect personally identifiable data about users. Web traffic on en.vedur.is is measured by Google Analytics, Siteimprove and Modernus using cookies. They collect information about each entry to the website, such as date and time, what browser and device is used to access the site, and the search terms that brought the visitor to the site. The Icelandic Met Office uses these services to monitor and improve the quality of the website, such as finding typos and broken links. The collected data helps us improve our service but the information obtained is not personally identifiable.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office is not responsible for any harm or damage that may result from incorrect or missing data on its web-site or data servers. Similarly, the Icelandic Meteorological Office shall not be liable for any loss, injury, or damage resulting from their use. The Icelandic Meteorological Office is exempt from liability, responsibility, obligations, and compensation in connection with the information to the extent permitted by law.
By using the IMO web-site and data servers you agree to the terms and conditions stated on this page.
Anyone can download images (photos) as they appear on our web-site (low resolution) but IMO does not fullfill requests for images in higher resolution. Such requests will possibly be forwarded to the author (photographer).
Further details about the above terms and conditions are stated in the current Icelandic law about weather services (nr. 142/2004), and in the regulations of the Icelandic Meteorological Office (nr. 367/1996). For additional information, please contact the IMO web-master.
Spam prevention
For web forms where users can submit information we are using an automated spam prevention system, ReCAPTCHA from Google. Users might be asked to solve tasks that are difficult for an automated process to solve.ReCAPTCHA collects data about the browser and browser usage and analyses it to detect whether a form submission comes from a real person or a program.
Strictly speaking this functionality falls under the definitions of privacy laws. However, the data sent to Google is anonymous and does not contain any information being submitted by the user. This type of spam prevention has proven to be necessary for the form functionality on this website.
Any user not willing to undergo the data collection of ReCAPTCHA is encouraged to send us the applicable data in an email instead.
