at the CGPS station Grimsvotn
(GFUM) in the first hours of the eruption. GFUM is located 5 km east
of the eruption site. In the first four hours the site moved ~ 20 cm in
the north direction, 15 cm towards west and subsided 10 cm. The
deformation rate has since slowed down, with the total displacement in
the first two days of the eruption about 50 cm to the northwest, with 25

)), and five surface roughness lengths (0, 3, 10, 40 and 150 cm). The wind
statistics are calculated for locally flat terrain. For Part 3, the locations of the 14 test sites (see
Figure 1) were chosen based on either particularly high wind energy potential at a given elevation,
or due to their proximity to existing power plants, making it easier to integrate locally generated
wind energy

ICESat-2 will carry the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) and collect
data to a latitudinal limit of 88 degrees. In contrast to Geoscience Laser Altimeter System
(GLAS) on ICESat, ATLAS employs a 6-beam micro-pulse laser photon-counting approach.
It uses a high repetition rate (10 kHz; 70 cm/media/vatnafar/joklar/Reykholt-abstracts.pdf
). This is one reason why the volcano is now considered to be ‘overdue', as the last eruption occurred more than 16 years ago. Before 1970, Hekla erupted less frequently, with repose intervals up to 120 years in past centuries. An overview of Hekla´s activity is available from the Catalogue of Icelandic Volcanoes .

and reported. During the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 there were not
dramatic reports of volcanic ash encounters, but it caused a great disruption
of the air traffic all around the world because of ash dispersal over the
Atlantic sea and Europe. In that occasion more than 100,000 flights were canceled

apply this methodology in the current project also. An
important difference is however that the assumptions
for climate and energy system will refer to
approximately the same year.
