caldera until the surrounding ice is breached.
When that happens, water escapes to cause a
jökulhlaup in the river Skeidará, after having
traveled ~50 km beneath the Skeidarárjökull
outlet glacier (Figure 1b). Jökulhlaups occur
there every 1–10 years and last from days to
weeks, each time releasing 0.4–4 km3 of water

in the models, while on the other
hand, models require quantitative information on a wealth of
parameters that is often difficult to extract from storylines. In other
words, there is a mismatch between storylines and model
parameters (Steps 3–4 in Fig. 1), as well as between model output
and revised stories (Steps 5–6). In practice, particularly the

lake is a wall of ice. On the northern side a tephra wall rises 20 meters
above the water. The ice walls at the southwestern corner of the crater
are melting, i.e. at the site of the vent that was active 4 – 6 June. The
rate of melting is assumed to be about one cuber meter per second.
Seismic tremor: Low tremor level. Pulses are observed off and on.

successor is crucial for human adaptation to
changing climate.
How did stationarity die? Stationarity is
dead because substantial anthropogenic
change of Earth’s climate is altering the
means and extremes of precipitation, evapo-
transpiration, and rates of discharge of rivers

a meter over the last 24 hours.
The volcanic eruption in Holuhraun is still ongoing with similar strength as last few
days. Lava flows at similar rates as yesterday towards East into Jökulsá á Fjöllum.
The lava filed was measured yesterday afternoon to be 24,5 square kilometres.
Accumulated volume of the lava is now estimated to be at least 200 million cubic
meters.

expected that the future water level of the Horsens fiord will increase by 1 meter by the end of this
century.
