During the conference all of you are requested to act as rapporteur in two or three sessions. A preliminary allocation of rapporteur sessions has been made (see below), while accounting for your expertise in certain areas. Participants can suggest changes in the rapporteur session allocation, on the condition a convincing argumentation is provided as well as a confirmed alternative rapporteur /media/loftslag/programme2---PhD-Workshop-preceding-Adaptation-Research-Conference.pdf
  • 2. Monitoring of Hekla

are reliably recorded has improved since 2000. Increased earthquake activity at Hekla results in an automated audio warning in IMO's monitoring room in Reykjavík, which is staffed around the clock every day of the year. The warning system, which is used for all regions in Iceland, is based on earthquake size, earthquake rate and energy release relative to predefined thresholds. • 6. An earthquake in South Iceland

that the earthquake is an aftershock following a strong earthquake in the same region in June 2000. This is because not all the strain in the bedrock was released during the 2000 earthquakes. It cannot be excluded that a similiar-sized earthquake could occur in the same region in the near future. The lowland in South Iceland is one of the most seismically active regions of the country, where /about-imo/news/nr/2888

may have caused preseismic velocity changes in the crust. The original design of the network had a high clock accuracy (±1 ms). S-waves tend to be very clear, and successful 1D velocity model (SIL model) has been used to locate earthquakes in the area, suggesting relatively simple velocity structure in spite of active tectonic setting. • 10. Earthquakes shake Bláfjöll ski-area

around M4 occurred, only 5 seconds apart, 6 km south of Bláfjöll mountains. Several smaller aftershocks were recorded. The earthquakes were felt widely in the capital area, and also in Ölfus and Akranes. The earthquakes are located on the tectonic plate boundary that lies eastwards along the Reykjanes peninsula where earthquakes of magnitude around M6 can occur.
