Trausti Jónsson (IMO, Ice) - The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) -
the WMO method and its application in Iceland
Abstract
Natural hazards have always been a major threat to individuals and the society in Iceland.
During a period of optimism after the Second World War it was assumed that progress and
modern development would soon marginalize such threats. A series

5700 Trimble receivers, the total network is relatively modern. Trimble NetRS receivers
have an ethernet and serial interface, but the older models have serial interfaces only,
making data transfer more cumbersome with modern communication technology such as
GPRS and 3G. In general the receivers have been reliable. The NetRS

methodology is widely utilized by many automatic earthquake detectors, but instead of having
window lengths on the order of minutes, like the ALERT module, they have window durations
on the order of seconds. A longer STA window duration will make the module less sensitive to
small signals (Trnkoczy, 1999). Additionally, the total duration of the STA and LTA windows
may not exceed 24 hours

This article also addresses the question whether a higher
level of AIWM is showing a different response in coping
with floods and droughts than case-studies with a lower
level of AIWM. This will be done by looking at their
adaptation strategies
