concentrations of H2S as only goggles and a gas-mask can provide
adequate, short-term protection. At 20 ppm of H2S some people will
stop smelling the gas and at 100 ppm of H2S there are significant
threats to life and health.In
addition to poisonous gases, loose chunks of ice hanging from the roof of the
ice cave and a very slippery floor can present serious dangers. A small

at Bárðarbunga was measured
with the radar system of Isavia’s aircraft. The measurements show large changes on
the ice-surface. Up to 15 m subsidence has occurred in the centre of the caldera,
which corresponds to a volume change of 0.25 km3. The shape of the subsidence
area is in accordance with the elevation of the caldera floor having lowered by that
amount.
o Subsidence of this order has

the flow of magma erupted to the surface.
o Considering the time period since the beginning of the eruption slow
movements towards the Bárðarbunga caldera indicate continuing subsidence
of the caldera.
o A new GPS station was installed on top of Bárðarbunga yesterday to monitor
the subsidence of the caldera floor.
Three scenarios are considered most likely:
o Subsidence

Conclusions of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Icelandic Civil Protection:
The eruptive activity at Holuhraun and the the subsidence of the Bárðarbunga
caldera floor continues at similar intensity.
The subsidence of the Bárðarbunga caldera and seismic activity continues the same
as the last few days. The GPS station on top of Bárðarbunga shows a subsidence of
the caldera around half
