IASPEI is confident that the L’Aquila case will provide the opportunity to develop a proper
link between science, policy makers and society in order to avoid any type of
miscommunication of information and scientific knowledge in the future.

values.
Nawri et al. (2012b) and Nawri et al. (2012c) introduced a methodology for adjusting WRF model
results based on surface measurements. This is done through a linear

than can be expected to originate from the cauldrons, three to four times the wa-
ter equivalent of the accumulation of snow over the watershed of the cauldrons. It has
been estimated that flow from the cauldrons, in addition to the jökulhlaups, could be
2–5 m3 s 1 at maximum (Vatnaskil, 2005). It is possible that part of the sulfate-rich
groundwater from the glacier comes from the cauldrons

The International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior, IASPEI, has sent a press release on the l'Aquila sentence in Italy.
The European Seismological Commission, ESC, has encouraged its representatives in numerous countries

to be
estimated based on return periods for accumulated precipitation over a fixed timescale,
which is typically 24 hours.
10. Precipitation return periods need to be translated into engineering recommendations
suitable to the type of infrastructure and activity in question.
From the above list, this report addresses points 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Point 9 is considered but not
addressed completely
