  • 11. Earthquake activity offshore North Iceland continues

of the main cluster where the M5.6 event occurred on Sunday morning. Yesterday's cluster is located slightly closer to the Húsavík Flatey Fault and strongest events were around M3.9 at 05:25 and 05:32. Another M3.5 earthquake at 21:16 on 22. October and an earthquake M4.0 at 05:27 on 23. October were again located in the area of the M5.6 main shock further northwest. These earthquakes are purely /about-imo/news/nr/2558

been manually revised so far are shown as red dots. The M5.5 mainshock is located on a north-south striking left lateral strike-slip fault, see black lines in the map. The M4.7 event around 9 am was located on a normal fault to the north-west. This cluster at about 7.5 km distance to the main cluster was most likely activated due to static stress changes induced by the M5.5 earthquake /about-imo/news/nr/2681
  • 13. Earthquake activity east of Grímsey has decreased

parts of the Grímsey fault system. The events of 2nd April were reported earlier. Later that evening new activity started 15-20 km southeast of the main cluster, and around 23:00 two earthquakes M4.7 and 4.6 were measured in that area and felt widely in North Iceland. Both were on a left lateral strike-slip faulting. The map above shows the activity from 31st March to the late afternoon of 4th /about-imo/news/nr/2685
  • 14. Registration

to give an oral or poster presentation, whether you intend to participate in the excursion to Langjökull on Friday afternoon, and whether you arrive on June 19 or 20. A block booking of rooms has been made at the Reykholt hotel. Potential participants are encouraged to register early due to limited number of hotel rooms. The deadline for registration was: April 15 – abstract, registration /lidar/lidar-2013/registration/

connects the NVZ to the offshore Kolbeinsey ridge (KR). The block bounded by the WVZ, EVZ and SISZ is sometimes called the Hreppar micro-plate (HM). Seismicity is mainly confined to the two transform zones, the TFZ and the SISZ. This thesis focuses on seismicity in the SISZ, RP and WVZ. Figure 1.1.The plate boundary in Iceland. approximately 140 earthquakes between 30 January and 22 April that year. The reason probably being the depth of the seismic cluster, which was near the base of the crust. The purpose of this research is to analyze the seismic activity within Eyjafjallajökull recorded by the SIL network during the period 1991–2006, in order to study the processes that caused the heightened seismicity and uplift /media/vedurstofan/utgafa/skyrslur/2009/VI_2009_013.pdf
  • 18. Gas concentrations in the Hofsjökull ice cave

those already reported. Oxygen was measured at normal levels, so there is no evidence of carbon dioxide (CO2) accumulation, but this was not measured on these devices. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) was not detected in the cave.An addition hazard is the potential for roof collapse. During another visit in the past week, an ice block sized 2*4*0.4 m was seen to have collapsed from a side wall near /about-imo/news/gas-concentrations-in-the-hofsjokull-ice-cave
