Seismic activity at Eyjafjarðaráll is continuing although it has slightly decreased since yestarday evening. On 25 October, the largest events in the source region of Sunday's M 5.6 earthquake

was used as a
reference map for co-registration and correction of the vertical offset of the
other DEMs. The average specific mass balance was estimated from the mean
elevation difference between glaciated areas of the DEMs. The glacier
mass balance declined significantly between the two periods: from 0.2 to
0.2 m yr1 w. eq. during the earlier period (1980s through 1998) to 1.8 to

pressure system approaches Iceland from the south on Sunday afternoon, with southeasterly winds, 18-23 m/s.
The southeasterly winds are accompanied by rain or sleet, and considerable amount of precipitation is expected. Temperatures are expected to be above zero at sea level, but sleet or snow may be expected in mountainous regions.
By Sunday evening the low will move towards north, just west

This study is concerned with well-developed, persistent, mid- to high-latitude large-scale weather
systems, rather than their early detection and tracking. Therefore, cyclones

and goals to un-

the management process.
The fundamental importance of uncertainty in water man-
agement can be illustrated by EU’s Water Framework Direc-
tive (WFD). The WFD is an outcome of EU environmental
policy, where one of the basic principles is ‘‘to contribute to
