except in the northwest. The eruption has abated slightly since yesterday. No effusion of lava has been observed.

The altitude of the plume is monitored by two weather radars, one located in Keflavík International Airport 220 km from the volcano, and a mobile one currently situated approx. 80 km away from the volcano.
Initially the plume reached approx. 20 km altitude but during

caldera. The characteristic activity is explosive basaltic eruptions occurring on central volcano flanks or the
fissure swarm. Known eruptions have mostly been VEI 3-4 but occasionally VEI 5-6 (bulk volume of tephra up
to 10 km3). The largest eruptions occurred in the early Holocene, effusive basaltic eruptions on the fissure swarm
with lava volumes ≥20 km3. Eruption

currents. Because of the wide range of likely flow rheologies, three Manning's n values are assessed: 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 s/m1/3. Results indicate that a large part of the lowland between the rivers Skaftafellsá and Breiðá (350 km2) is susceptible to flooding because of jökulhlaups descending the western and southern slopes of Öræfajökull. MANAGEMENT
Seismic activity in Bardarbunga continues to be strong. The strongest earthquake since the last meeting of the
Advisory Board on last Tuesday was measured M4,6 yesterday, Thursday, at 21:45. Rather strong and flurry wave
of seismic activity was recorded in Bardarbunga cauldron yesterday evening between 20:50 and 22:30 Three
earthquakes stronger than M4,0 were detected over
