Time: 07. Apr 2021, 10:56 GMT

Color code:  Orange

Volcano id: 371030

Activity summary:
On the 6th of April at midnight an additional fissure opened in the area between the two active pre-existing fissures. The new fissure is emitting lava which flows into the preemplaced lava field in Geldingadalur. Due to low visibility it is not possible to assess the current height of the plume. Lava flows and gas pollution are the main hazard in the area. It cannot be excluded that more fractures will open in the coming days/weeks along the same line where the dike intrusion was mapped during the unrest phase. No emission of ash is reported, if not occasionally and in minor amount.

Cloud height:
Due to low visibility it is not possible to assess the current height of the plume.

Other cloud information:
The plume is gas rich and no ash observed

Remarks:
Gas pollution has been affecting inhabited regions in the northwest of the Reykjanes peninsula during the night.
