Weather forecast for the next 24 hours

Southwest 5-13 m/s and rainshowers with temperatures 7 to 12 deg C. Turning west and northwest 8-15 m/s during evening and night with rain in the north, but sleet on the mountains, first in the Westfjords. Northwest 10-18 m/s for a period in the northernmost areas with temperatures falling significantly.
Northwesterly winds, 10-18 tomorrow morning, windiest in the east parts, moderating later, 5-13 in along the east coast by evening. Scattered light rain showers with temperatures 3 to 12 C, coolest in the north.

Forecaster's remarks

Expecting gusty winds in the mid-north over night, but wiedly in the east parts tomorrow morning and into the afternoon. Can be hazardous to wind-sensitive vehicles. Also, some wet snow is expected on the highest mountain roads in the north. Travellers should therfore drive carefully in those areas.

HARMONIE - numerical weather prediction model

HARMONIE is a numerical weather prediction model (NWP) that is non-hydrostatic and convection-permitting. It is operated at 2.5 km horizontal resolution over a domain that covers Iceland and the surrounding seas. At this resolution it is possible to simulate explicitly some processes that are important for clouds and precipitation as well as meteorological phenomena related to up- and downdrafts. In order to simulate the interaction between the atmosphere and the surface, the model takes into account different types of land surface as well as processes in and at the surface.
