A new Act on IMO
Recently, the Minister of the Environment, Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir, presented a new legal bill for the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) at Alþingi, the Icelandic national parliament.
According to the bill, a new institute will be created by merging IMO and the hydrology unit of the National Energy Authority. The merger will be effective from 1st January 2009. The well known name of IMO will be retained.
After initial discussion on 10 April the bill was sent to the parliament's committee for further deliberation.
