Gale increasing

Icelandic Meteorological Office wishes to emphasize the following weather forecast:

Warning

A strong gale or severe gale warning (average wind velocity 20 to 28 m/s) is in effect for all parts of Iceland today. Forecast for today, 10. March 2015:

Rapidly increasing southeast winds near noon, 18 to 28 m/s about 15:00 UTC with strong gusts by mountains in the South and West, increasing in North and East in the evening. Snow at first but later sleet or rain. Considerable precipitation in the south part and becoming warmer for a while but mainly dry in the northeast. Turns to south 18 to 28 m/s wind with sleet showers in the in the evening strongest in west and becomes colder again. Lighter winds by midnight.

Forecaster's remarks

Bad weather is expected late noon until night. Visibility will be poor because of snow and drifting snow. Bad travelling weather in mountain roads and even closed roads. The weather passes over the South and West parts in the evening, but near midnight in the east part.
