Heavy thunder and lightning in Northwest Iceland and the Westfjords
Heavy thunder and lightning began at 7:41 this morning near Húsafell. The activity quickly spread over Sælingsdalur, Hrútafjörður, parts of Strandasýsla, and reached the Westfjords, particularly the area around Önundarfjörður. By 10:00, lightning activity was prominent over Reykhólasveit and Þorskafjarðarheiði. By 11:00, more than 450 lightning strikes had been recorded since the activity began.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office continues to closely monitor developments.
