Bad forecast for Friday and Saturday in Northern Iceland

Wind, rain and snow in the highlands

Special attention is given to bad weather forecast for Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August. High wind is expected with rain on lowland but with sleet and snow on higher ground, especially in the North. It is not possible yet to predict the actual path of the low-pressure and hence it is not possible to say which area of the country will be most affected.

Readers are encouraged to check the updated text forecast regularly. For the time being the forecast for the next few days is such:

On Thursday: Southerly wind 5 to 10 m/s and some rain in the south, elsewhere dry. Rain by evening. Temperature 8 to 16 degrees C, warmest in the east.

On Friday: Variable wind 5 to 13 m/s before noon and rain. Becoming northwest 18 to 23 m/s in the northwest with heavy rain, but snow over 200 to 300 meters above sea level. Northwest and west 15 to 23 m/s in the southwest and south and rain. Ligher wind in the east and mainly dry. Temperature from 1 degrees C by afternoon in the northwest, up to 12°C in the east.

On Saturday: North and northwest 15 to 23 m/s before noon, but ligher wind in the northeast. Heavy or considerable rain in the north, but snow over 200 to 300 meters above sea level. Mostly dry in the south. Northwest 13 to 18 m/s in the northeast by afternoon, with rain in lowlands, elsewhere sleet or snow, but decreasing wind and precipitation in the west. Temperature 1 to 9 deg., coldest inland in the north and temperatures below zero there in the night.

On Sunday: Rather light wind, fair and cold, but southeast 8 to 13 m/s with rain in the south and west by evening and slowly becoming warmer.

On Monday: It looks like south and southeast wind and rain in most parts. Temperature 5 to 10 deg.
